Imperfect Employee Spotlight: Andre Vinent
We love sharing more about our company culture and celebrating our wonderful employees, which is why we'd like to introduce you to Andre Vinent -- Assistant Manager of our warehouse in San Francisco. Andre has been a key member of the Imperfect team since September 2016. Andre is a trained chef and prior to Imperfect, worked in restaurants around the Bay Area. In addition to his work managing our SF warehouse, he also took it upon himself to coordinate numerous donation partnerships in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, including our beloved weekly Free Farmers Market.
Andre started the Free Farmers Market in our old warehouse in Emeryville, California, where he'd put out extra produce so the Emeryville community could enjoy it. Imperfect's grown quickly since then, and so has the Farmers Market. Andre says, “We didn’t have nearly as much in Emeryville as we do now. We used to have two pallets, now we’re up to about ten each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That's 7,000 pounds of produce donated each week through the program.” Andre sets up the market each day and makes sure it's organized so folks can have a pleasant experience.
Andre has also fostered relationships with other organizations in the Bayview like the Bayview Hunters Point Foundation for Community Improvement, which provides outpatient mental health treatment, medication support, case management, and outreach services for children, adolescent and adult residents of San Francisco.
Of his work, Andre says, "The Bayview needs it. There’s a lot of poor and disenfranchised people. Many are low income, many are seniors, and they’re close by. It’s important for Imperfect to create these positive relationships with our community.”
Inspired by Andre, we asked him what it takes to create these partnerships. “Footwork, talking to employees, talking to anybody and everybody who’s interested in fighting hunger. I put the word out to everyone who will listen," explains Andre.
He says, "To quote Kelsey Forbes, (Imperfect's Merchandising and Inventory Manager), 'working here helps you see how we could end hunger if we could get all this food into the hands of those who need it.' That's what motivates me."
We hope Andre's story inspires you to find ways, big and small, to help your local community. If you need ideas, please consider volunteering for one of our food bank partners. Stay tuned for future employee spotlights where we'll be sharing more stories of members of our team that inspire us!
