3 Ways to Recover More Food This Week!

- The average family throws away over $1,300 every year in the form of food waste. Experts estimate that 25% of the foods and beverages that we bring home end up in the trash.
- Food waste is water waste. Wasting one pound of beef is the equivalent of taking a six-hour shower. Wasting a pound of tomatoes wastes the same amount of water as a five-minute shower.
- By recovering and distributing only one-quarter of the food we waste, we could feed the 795 million people around the world who suffer from hunger.
Master your fridge. Practice FIFO: first-in, first-out! When you put new things in your fridge, move the older items to the front so you see and use them first. Date your Tupperware so you don’t let good food go bad.
Pay it forward! Next time you’re thinking about throwing out something (food or not!), ask yourself if you could give it a second life. Try donating food to a food bank, clothing to Goodwill, or furniture to a friend. Generosity is one of the best ways to prevent waste!
