We have exciting news for all of our customers in the SF Bay Area and Sacramento. Starting in February, we’re going to be offering some truly special dried fruits, nuts, and grains to help round out your box each week. Just imagine the bulk bin of the grocery store, delivered to your door. Not only are these ingredients going to help your next meal be easier and healthier to put together, but they’re also powerful ways for you to expand the impact of your Imperfect box and help reduce food waste beyond the world of fruits and vegetables. What do we mean?

A great example is our lentils. We got in touch with an organic co-op in Montana who had grown and harvested over 250,000 pounds of lentils for a buyer, only to have the buyer back out at the last minute. This left them with more product than they could possibly move on their own, even if they had an interested buyer. Once we heard their story, we happily agreed to help find a home for these lentils. It just made so much sense. Now the co-op can recover all of the costs they put into growing them, you get to enjoy wonderful lentils at home, and we all get to work towards a more flexible and sustainable food system where nutritious food doesn’t end up stuck in purgatory for no good reason.

Keep an eye out for awesome items like these lentils, plus roasted almonds, quinoa, and dried fruits the next time you customize your box. They are also all surplus items that would otherwise have been discarded due to a lack of demand, so by buying them, you’re helping provide financial security to growers that face a huge amount of uncertainty with every changing season. We’re excited to offer you a great deal on these items that are often quite expensive on the grocery shelf. When you try them out, be sure to let us know what you think!
