What June Has In Store For Your Imperfect Box

Seasonal suspense is a real problem for fans of fruits and veggies. We’re here to help. Here’s what you need to know about what June has in store for your Imperfect box:

Stone Fruit Surprise

Summer is waiting in the wings, which means that stone fruit season has officially arrived. Add some apricots to your box while you still can, since their season is already wrapping up. Peach fans can start making Bellinis early since the peach market is positively flooded with yellow peaches this year due to a bountiful harvest on both coasts. Plums will be bringing up the rear, coming off trees in the Central Valley later on in June.

Amazing Asparagus

Our supply team is always hard at work finding new ways to prevent food waste, and recently got an important call from an asparagus grower in Michigan. They had a large amount of asparagus whose size and misshapen “feathered tips” meant that grocery stores wouldn’t buy it. Without us this asparagus would have been left in the field and tilled back into the soil rather than finding a spot on your dinner table. So, if you live in the Midwest, keep an eye out for this awesome asparagus next time you customize your box.

Melon Mania

Peaches aren’t the only fruit in town this summer. The melon season is heating up in Aguila, Arizona, and we’ll have a fun variety to choose from in the weeks ahead, including mini watermelons, honeydews, and cantaloupes.

Checking in on Cherries

You’ve read this far because you’re wondering when cherries are coming. The truth is that cherry season got off to a rough start on the West Coast. Heavy rains in California wiped out two thirds of the cherry crop this year, which means that we won’t have cherries available until the season starts in the Pacific Northwest in late June and early July. We know this means extra patience for all the cherry lovers out there, but we promise that they’ll be worth the wait!

Grocery Greatness

In addition to all of these seasonal produce goodies, we’re excited to share that since we’ve expanded our mission to help recover other types of food, we now have a full lineup of grocery staples for you to add to your next Imperfect box. This means that you can get staples like lentils, snacks like dried fruit and nuts, and other essentials like coffee, pasta, and more delivered right to your door alongside your produce!

Thanks for reading and for sharing our excitement for June produce. Stay tuned at the end of June for our big summer produce preview, when we’ll run down the delicacies in store for the Imperfect community during the warmer months.
